CNN:
Atlanta is also home to the headquarters of Cable News Network, CNN. It was set up in 1980 by Ted Turner. Since its inception, CNN has changed the face of news broadcasting. It was the first news channel to broadcast 24 hours per day. It has revolutionised news media, it was the first news station to introduce breaking news via the internet. CNN is worldwide and the company now encompasses cable and satellite networks, websites and radio stations. The network tends to take a more liberal approach to news casting and has been criticised by rightwing politicians in the US for an alleged liberal or pro democratic bias. CNN gained its reputation for covering the space shuttle disaster in 1986 and the Persian Gulf War in 1991. the network was also the first to break news of the terrorist attacks on New York on 9/11. It has been estimated that CNN is available to more than one billion people worldwide and 86 million households in the US have access to it. The success of CNN is largely due to its founder Ted Turner. He merged the Turner Broadcasting System Inc with Time Warner Inc in 1995 which then merged with AOL to create AOL Time Warner in 2001. His smart business sense has made him America's largest private home owner, he owns approximately 2million acres of land in Montana where he homes the largest private bison herd in the US.
