Margaret Mitchell and Gone with the Wind:
Margaret Mitchell is the author of the best selling novel Gone with the Wind. She was born in Atlanta on November 8 1900. From an early age Margaret took an interest in writing and reading. She was most interested in reading the history of her hometown of Atlanta. Margaret's writing career began in 1922, when she became a feature writer for the Atlanta Journal Sunday Magazine. When Margaret married, she left the magazine in 1926 to devote time to her husband. It was at this time that she began to write "Gone with the Wind", the project took ten years to complete. Gone with the Wind is a love story based around the time of the Civil War in Atlanta. The official release of the book was June 30 1936 and at this stage had pre sold 50,000 copies. The book has sold more than 15 million copies worldwide and has become the worlds best selling book. It has been translated into twenty five languages in twenty nine countries. The movie rights to the book were sold for $50,000 and the movie version of the book was released in 1939 and won an Oscar for Best Picture. The impact of "Gone with the Wind" is unprecedented and no other film or book can match.
